Decision 27/17

Postby Divot » Wed Dec 07, 2016 12:15 am

Good morning,
If the player who played out of turn had retrieved his original ball and dropped it instead of substituing another ball and then recognizing his error and on advice of counsel invoked Rule 20-6, would he be penalized one stroke under 18-2 to put his original ball back to the spot from where he had lifted it?

Imo, yes, there would be an 18-2 breach as he did not have authority under the Rules to lift the ball. D18-2/11 describes something similar.

If he had made a stroke at it he would have been proceeding under 27-1a
